My connection to the sport
I have been involved with sports all my life, growing up in a family where sports has always been something very important. For my parents it was important that their children are able to move around and live an overall healthy lifestlye. So, growing up in a family of tennis players, I started playing tennis at the young age of 4 years old. I stuck with Tennis for about 11 years until I had enough of playing a solo sport. After a quick run in with Handball, I went to a U19 game of the local football team (Basel Gladiators) and decided that this was something I want to do.
I played football for about half a year before making a decision that would have a significant impact on how I’d spend my youth. I joined the Swiss sports school, where I had the opportunity to pursue my academic degree while also striving toward my goals in football. I began training about eight to nine times per week, often alongside players from our adult team, who guided me on my path to becoming the best football player I could be.Fortunately, partying never appealed to me much, so sticking strictly to my training program was never a challenge. I always saw football as the ideal way to discover what my body and mind were capable of, and this mindset remains with me to this day.
This path eventually led me to leave home at a young age to pursue my football ambitions. After a brief experience at a football academy in Germany and another season back home, I was fortunate enough to be selected for the NFL’s youth program, the NFL Academy, in London. At 18, I left Basel to live in London for the next two years. During my time there, I became a member of the academy’s leadership team and was appointed defensive captain at our first scrimmage. These years in London were among the most memorable of my life.
Since leaving the academy, I went on to play for the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns, with whom I won both the German Bowl and the CEFL Bowl in 2022. Afterwards, I started playing for the Helvetic Mercenaries (formerly known as Helvetic Guards), which is the first-ever professional football team in Switzerland. Although the team didn’t have the most successful seasons, I was able to establish myself well enough to attract potential interest from both the CFL and the NFL. Now it’s up to me to make the most of this opportunity.
